Smaller companies do more to support women employees

Nearly 50 percent of women in healthcare think it will take more than 25 years to achieve gender parity in the workplace, according to a Rock Health survey.

The venture fund dedicated to digital health surveyed more than 300 women who work in healthcare. When asked how well their employer supports women in their career development, those at smaller companies — 50 or fewer employees —reported employers are better at supporting career development of women employees than those at larger companies.

Further, no woman serves as CEO of a Fortune 500 healthcare company, Rock Health notes. And, 61 percent of venture capital firms investing in digital health have no women partners. However, 24 percent of CEOs at digital health startups founded in 2016 were women — which marks a significant improvement over the past few years.
