Shuttered Texas hospital's board members resign

Bowie (Texas) Memorial Hospital, which has been closed for more than a year, is closer to reopening under a new name after the hospital's board members resigned Wednesday, according to a KFDX news report.

Bowie Memorial closed in November 2015 after voters turned down a ballot measure to create a new hospital tax district. In February 2016, the hospital accepted a $1.5 million takeover bid from Faraz Hashmi, MD, and the hospital's board members signed off on the sales contract in March. Dr. Hashmi plans to reopen the hospital under a new name — Central Hospital of Bowie.

Before the hospital can reopen, the Bowie Hospital Authority has to be dissolved. Hospital board members moved forward with that process Wednesday when they signed a letter of resignation. With the letter signed, the Bowie city attorney will draft an ordinance to officially dissolve the hospital authority, according to the report.

Although the hospital's new owner is expected to soon begin hiring staff, an official reopening date has not been set.
