Senator: VA secretary nominee Dr. Ronny Jackson promised opposition to privatizing veterans' healthcare

White House physician Ronny Jackson, MD, said he opposes the privatization of the Department of Veterans Affairs, just days before his confirmation hearing to lead the agency, according to The Hill.

Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., said Dr. Jackson promised opposition to VA privatization during an April 17 one-on-one meeting.

"He [Dr. Jackson] said all the right things, seems to have the same position on privatization that [ousted VA Secretary David] Shulkin, [MD], had," Mr. Tester told reporters, according to The Hill. "He answered the questions right on privatization."

Dr. Shulkin previously claimed his ousting was due to his opposition to the privatization of the VA. When President Donald Trump tapped Dr. Jackson to lead the agency, it caused speculation over whether the administration is considering privatization.

Dr. Jackson's confirmation hearing before Congress is scheduled for April 25.
