Sen. Collins: McConnell 'kept his commitment' on ACA stabilization

Leo Vartorella -

ACA stabilization measures were not included in the omnibus funding bill passed March 23, but Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, did not blame Congressional leadership, according to The Hill.

Lawmakers considered funding cost sharing subsidies and a reinsurance program in the bill, but Republican calls to include Hyde Amendment language, which would restrict insurers providing abortion coverage from receiving federal money, led Democrats to oppose the measures.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., promised Ms. Collins in December they would consider her reinsurance proposal in return for her support of tax legislation. However, Ms. Collins blamed Democrats for their stand against the Hyde Amendment and praised Mr. McConnell for the support of the proposal.

"Senator McConnell has been completely supportive, has offered me a roll call vote if I want one, and if [Sen.] Lamar [Alexander, R-Tenn.,] wants one, and he has kept his commitment completely on this," Ms. Collins said, according to The Hill.
