Sanders: Signs point to Democrats adopting Medicare-for-all as healthcare standard

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said a new healthcare plan from the Center for American Progress demonstrates the Democratic party may be moving toward accepting single-payer healthcare, according to The Hill.

The Center for American Progress' "Medicare Extra for All" plan provides government-run insurance modeled on Medicare for individuals enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid or who participate in the ACA markets. It would also maintain employer-sponsored insurance, though employees would have the option of joining the Medicare Extra plan.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was closely aligned with the Center for American Progress, and Mr. Sanders believes the new plan represents a step toward the acceptance of single-payer for the Democratic mainstream.

"I believe in a Medicare for all, single-payer, but to the degree that people are talking about guaranteeing healthcare to all people, it's a step," Mr. Sanders said, according to The Hill.
