Robert Weaver withdraws nomination to lead IHS amid work history controversy

Robert Weaver, President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Indian Health Services, has withdrawn his nomination in the wake of accusations that he falsified his qualifications, according to The New York Times.

Mr. Weaver claims to have held a number of management supervisory positions at Joplin, Mo.-based St. John's Regional Medical Center but multiple people who worked there at the time said they did not remember him.

Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., called on President Trump to more thoroughly investigate future nominees to lead the IHS.

"Now the Trump administration must honor its trust responsibilities to American Indians and Alaska Natives and nominate — and fully vet — a director with the strongest possible combination of leadership and fiduciary skills as well as experience running a large public health system," said Mr. Udall, according to The New York Times.
