Most Democratic voters in Iowa do not prefer "Medicare for All," the most progressive healthcare reform offered by Democratic candidates in the 2020 presidential election, according to The Iowa Poll.
The Iowa Poll was conducted for CNN, The Des Moines Register and Mediacom. It includes responses of 500 registered Democrats likely to attend the Democratic caucuses in Iowa on Feb. 3, 2020. The poll was conducted Nov. 8-13.
Voters who prefer Medicare for All slightly outnumber voters who prefer each of the other major policy plans offered by candidates, defined in the poll as a public option and improvement on the ACA. Here is the breakdown:
- 36 percent of Democratic caucusgoers prefer Medicare for All
- 34 percent prefer a public option
- 20 percent prefer restoration and improvement of the ACA
However, CNN coverage of the poll interprets these results as an overall preference for more moderate healthcare policies, as 54 percent of voters prefer non-Medicare for All plans. Read more about the results here.
