Ousted California hospital board member resigns clinical privileges

Alyssa Rege -

The Tulare (Calif.) Regional Medical Center board of directors approved the resignation of a former board member and his wife's clinical privileges Oct. 3, the Visalia Times-Delta reports.

Ousted board member Parmod Kumar, MD, and his wife, Parul Gupta, MD, held clinical privileges at the hospital but resigned them on Oct. 3. The couple still practice medicine and have offices in Tulare, according to the report.

Dr. Kumar served as a board member for the hospital from 1994 until he was recalled in July 2017. His wife joined the hospital's medical staff in 2001.

Officials plan to reopen the hospital by Oct. 15, roughly one year after it closed, through a partnership between Tulare Regional and Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health. On Oct. 3, the board also approved 863 hospital policies related to the hospital's operations during the interim management services agreement period of the hospital's operations.
