One third of new board members in Q1 2018 were women: 3 things to know

The percentage of women on Russell 3000 company boards grew from 16.5 percent to 16.9 percent in the first quarter of 2018, according to an Equilar study.

Here are three things to know.

1. Nearly one-third (32 percent) of new board members in the first quarter of 2018 were women. In 2017, 29.4 percent of new board members were women and in 2014, 17.9 percent were women.

2. The percentage of all-male Russell 3000 boards dropped below 20 percent for the first time.

3. Over 5 percent of boards that previously had no women added a female director in the first quarter of 2018.
