OhioHealth to cut 19 jobs as part of pediatric therapy program transition

Columbus-based OhioHealth is cutting 19 jobs at its pediatric therapy location in Ontario, Ohio, according to the Mansfield News Journal.

The cuts come as OhioHealth is transitioning the pediatric therapy program in Ontario to Columbus-based Nationwide Children's Hospital in March. Affected employees with the program, which offers therapy for children with a number diagnoses, such as cerebral palsy, developmental delays, attention deficit disorders and orthopedic injuries, were notified of the layoffs and planned transition this week.

Kelly Dials, RN, MSN, CNO and vice president of patient care for OhioHealth in Mansfield and Shelby, told the Mansfield News Journal transition details are not yet finalized, but OhioHealth wanted to notify employees of the transition once both organizations agreed to move forward.

OhioHealth said while affected employees will no longer be employed with OhioHealth, they will have the opportunity to interview with Nationwide as the organization prepares for the transition.

OhioHealth does not expect any service changes as a result of the transition.

As far as the reasoning behind the transition, Ms. Dials in the report cited OhioHealth's primary focus on adults and Nationwide's primary focus on children. She told the Mansfield News Journal, "Our focus was putting the kids of Richland County first."
