Ohio State medical school dean takes new role in Virginia

K. Craig Kent, MD, dean of The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, will leave his role for a new position at the University of Virginia, Ohio State announced Dec. 5.

Dr. Kent will become executive vice president for health affairs at Charlottesville-based UVA, effective Feb. 1. In this role, he will oversee UVA Health as well as its clinical enterprise.

Dr. Kent's tenure at the college of medicine has included growing the faculty from 1,680 members to more than 2,100 and attracting $50 million more in research funding in fiscal year 2019 than the year prior, among other accomplishments, according to Ohio State.

A vascular surgeon, Dr. Kent also serves in other capacities at Ohio State, as vice president for health sciences and the Leslie H. and Abigail S. Wexner Dean's Chair in Medicine.

Previously, he was chair of the surgery department at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison.
