Memorial Hospital and Manor to cut 18 jobs

Alyssa Rege -

Bainbridge, Ga.-based Memorial Hospital and Manor officials plan to eliminate 18 employee positions, citing the hospital's need to reduce operating expenses, improve the quality of patient care and increase efficiency and effectiveness at the hospital, according to The Post-Searchlight.

The hospital chose to let some employees go and to not fill existing vacancies.

Hospital Board Chairman Glennie Bench said the lay offs will not affect patient care. Officials also said the reorganization was simply "another step" in securing the hospital's financial viability and sustainability, according to the article.

"Obviously, we always hate to do this," said Ms. Bench. "But, we looked at it from a productivity standpoint, regarding the volumes we are doing in the various departments. We took it at a department by department basis. If the volume changes, we will add jobs back."
