Mayo Clinic to offer scholarships in Albert Lea, Austin

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic will offer scholarships to "non-traditional" students in the service areas of its Albert Lea, Minn., and Austin, Minn., hospitals, according to the Post-Bulletin.

Mayo defines "non-traditional" as those students seeking postsecondary education five or more years after earning their high school diploma or GED diploma. Two students in each service area will receive a $1,000 scholarship each year for their studies.

The scholarship announcement comes as Mayo begins its transition of ICU, inpatient and birthing services from Albert Lea to Austin, which has been met with opposition from Albert Lea community activists.

Scholarship applications are due Nov. 21 and recipients will be notified by Dec. 12.
