Massachusetts hospital eliminates 15 nursing jobs

Twenty employees at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, Mass., including 15 nurses on the medical/surgical floor, have lost their jobs, according to MassLive.com.

This reduction is necessary due to current inpatient volume at the hospital, the hospital's chief administrative officer and CNO Michele Urban, RN, MSN, told MassLive.

Thirteen of the 15 affected nurses will work in other Baystate Noble positions. Another nurse is taking another position within Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health. Another affected nurse is leaving the region.

The Massachusetts Nurses Association, which represents about 130 Baystate Noble nurses, opposes tothe cuts. The union said nurses will march in Springfield Oct. 17 "to protest the widespread and devastating reductions to patient care services that Baystate Health has made or is planning to make throughout the region."

Baystate Noble is a 91-bed acute care community hospital. It has more than 570 employees and 3,000 annual inpatient admissions, according to the hospital's website.
