Maine House votes to support governor's veto of Medicaid expansion funding bill

The Maine House voted to uphold Republican Gov. Paul LePage's veto of a one-year funding bill for voter-approved Medicaid expansion, according to The Hill.

The legislators voted 85-58 in support of the veto of the $60 million bill, which was set to draw funding from budget surplus revenue and Maine's tobacco settlement fund. This state money would have been matched by $500 million in federal funds for one year of Medicaid expansion. However, Mr. LePage argued the expansion should have a long-term funding plan.

Mr. LePage has vetoed Medicaid expansion six times after Maine voters approved the measure in November. In June, a judge ordered Mr. LePage to stop blocking the expansion.
