Lehigh Valley Health Network eliminates 70 management positions

Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network has cut 70 management positions amid financial pressures, according to The Morning Call.

Although LVHN did not specify which departments were affected by the cuts, the health system said the workforce reduction will not affect patient care.

"LVHN, like health networks nationwide, is being challenged by strong forces in our health care environment," the health system said in a statement to The Morning Call.

LVHN, which has hospitals on eight campuses, is feeling pressure from declining reimbursement, increasing competition and the shift from inpatient to outpatient care, according to the report.

However, the system is adjusting its strategy to help ensure success in the changing healthcare environment. At LVHN's annual meeting in late 2017, President and CEO Brian Nester, DO, said the health system is putting more focus on neighborhood clinics, urgent care centers and digital physician visits.
