KentuckyOne Health to lay off about 150 employees

Kelly Gooch -

Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health is laying off about 150 employees, or roughly 1 percent of its total workforce, according to an emailed statement to Becker's Hospital Review.

The health system said an additional 100 employees either took part in the voluntary retirement program or will move to University of Louisville Hospital as part of the hospital's management transition from KentuckyOne Health back to the university.

The reductions are primarily in KentuckyOne Health corporate service departments and do not affect employees at University of Louisville Hospital or James Graham Brown Cancer Center, according to the statement.

KentuckyOne Health said the decision to cut jobs was made "to improve operational efficiency, reduce overhead cost and allow us to remain focused on our core mission of delivering quality patient care."

"Challenges brought by the continuing evolution of healthcare reform and reimbursement structures have proven difficult for our organization and many others across Kentucky," the health system said. "Our organization is our people, individuals that serve our communities with more than 300,000 patient visits to our emergency departments in 2016. We are saddened that we must eliminate positions across KentuckyOne Health and are providing support to those leaving the organization."
