Kentucky Republican Gov. Matt Bevin's administration will restore dental and vision benefits for nearly 500,000 Medicaid enrollees after ending the coverage earlier this month, according to The Hill.
Mr. Bevin's administration announced the coverage cancellation in early July after a district judge blocked the state's request to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients. At the time, state officials said the move to end coverage was an "unfortunate consequence of the judge's ruling." However, many Democratic legislators viewed it as unfair retaliation for the judge's ruling.
"In his haste to strip these services away from families across Kentucky, Governor Bevin gave no warning to patients or guidance to providers, resulting in chaos and reports of men, women, and children being denied access to the treatments they need — forced to walk away from appointments and scheduled procedures," Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., wrote to HHS Secretary Alex Azar, according to The Hill.
