Kentucky bill would make abortion a felony

Leo Vartorella -

Kentucky state Rep. Robert Goforth proposed a bill that would make it a felony to perform an abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, according to The Hill.

Under the bill, performing an abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected would become a class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison. The only exceptions would be for medical emergencies, which providers would be required to document.

"My proposal recognizes that everyone has a right to life," Mr. Goforth said. "My personal belief is that life begins at conception and ends at natural death. A heartbeat proves that there’s life that deserves protection under law. if a heart is beating, a baby needs to be protected and given an opportunity to live."
