John Delaney, presidential candidate for 2020, touts universal healthcare plan

Leo Vartorella -

Former Rep. John Delaney, D-Md., a Democratic candidate for president in 2020, proposed a universal healthcare system similar to Medicaid that would eliminate employer-sponsored coverage, according to CNBC.

Mr. Delaney said it would be possible to provide Medicaid coverage to all citizens, with the option for supplemental coverage, if employer health plans were eliminated.

"You pay for that whole system by getting rid of the corporate deduction for healthcare, which is a terrible system. It doesn't make any economic sense," Mr. Delaney told CNBC. “So my system, which I believe I could pay for with that and a few other things, gives everyone healthcare as a right, but allows them also to have lots of choices. And there'd be a private market that floats above the government market."
