How servant leadership led this tech CEO to become one of the highest ranked leaders in his industry

Leo Vartorella -

Sameer Dholakia, CEO of Denver-based SendGrid, an email delivery platform, has a 98 percent approval rating on Glassdoor and was named the No. 1 tech CEO of a company with fewer than 1,500 employees. He credits his success to a management style known as servant leadership, according to Forbes.

Servant leadership puts the CEO at the bottom of the organizational chart and acknowledges how difficult the jobs of other employees are. Mr. Dholakia spends roughly half his workday meeting with SendGrid employees, both managers and front-line staffers. He concludes every meeting by asking what he can do to improve organizational or operational efficiency.

Mr. Dholakia believes this open relationship is why his company's revenue has climbed 40 percent over the last two years. He credits the culture of honesty at SendGrid with the organization's ability to continually make necessary adjustments.
