House Democrats plan to probe Trump administration on healthcare if they win majority

Emily Rappleye -

Democrats in the House are preparing requests for documents and testimony to probe the White House on healthcare if they win majority of the chamber in the midterm elections, Politico reports.

The investigations would span several committees and touch on the administration's reduction of ACA enrollment outreach funds, its decision not to side with federal law in a lawsuit against the ACA, and its role in separating migrant children from families at the border, according to the report.

Democrats told Politico HHS has ignored their requests for information on policy decisions. With House majority, Democrats would gain subpoena power. However, they say they want to focus strictly on policy investigations, not political point-scoring, according to the report.

The move to publicize planned investigations could be a play to voters who have indicated growing support for the healthcare law.
