Rep. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., introduced a resolution to allow the Office of the General Counsel of the House to intervene in a lawsuit filed by Republican states to end protections for pre-existing conditions under the ACA, according to The Hill.
Twenty Republican-led states filed a lawsuit arguing the protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions was unconstitutional after the repeal of the ACA's individual insurance mandate, and President Donald Trump's administration has declined to defend the protections in court.
Mr. Rosen's proposal mirrors a Senate resolution filed to allow the Office of Senate Legal Counsel to intervene in the lawsuit.
"Refusing to defend the existing law could take us back to the days when insurance companies could discriminate against people for everything from battling cancer to being pregnant," Ms. Rosen said in a news release, according to The Hill. "I refuse to sit on the sidelines while this administration declines to defend these life-saving protections, and I hope members of Congress on both sides of the aisle will support this resolution."
