Hospitals made 121 CEO changes in 2019

Last year, hospitals announced 121 CEO changes, down slightly from 2018, according to a report from executive coaching firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Turnover for hospital CEOs in 2019 was down about 13 percent from 2018, when 139 CEOs left their posts. In the larger healthcare and products sector, companies announced 107 CEO changes, down more than 18 percent from 2018 when 131 changes were made.

Across all industries, the firm found companies are increasingly looking to outsider CEOs to fill spots left by exiting CEOs. In 2019, 620 CEOs were internal replacements, while 784 were external hires.
