Hospital CEO turnover down 35% this year, report finds

Twenty-six hospital CEOs have stepped down this year, nearly 35 percent less than the 35 recorded in the same period a year prior, according to consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

"The churn we have been experiencing at the top since last August, with monthly totals well higher than average, seems to have cooled, at least for the moment," Andrew Challenger, vice president of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said in a prepared statement.

For the month of April, hospital CEO departures remained steady at five, compared to four recorded in the same month of 2018.

Across all sectors, the average tenure for an outgoing CEO in April was just under nine years. Challenger, Gray & Christmas said this is the lowest average tenure for a single month since November 2016.
