HHS appoints new deputy chief of staff

HHS Secretary Alex Azar is dividing the agency's deputy chief of staff position into two roles and promoting Judy Stecker to fill one of them — deputy chief of staff for operations and strategy.

Ms. Decker will serve under recently promoted Chief of Staff Brian Harrison and alongside a deputy chief of staff for policy. Mr. Harrison was promoted from deputy chief of staff to chief of staff earlier this month. Now, Ms. Stecker's new role will focus on HHS' external work, while the deputy chief of staff for policy will focus on policy planning. The deputy chief of staff for policy has not yet been appointed.

"This strategic reorganization and expansion of HHS' leadership structure is the product of my experience working alongside Secretary Azar, and will help HHS' leaders continue delivering the impressive results we have seen over the past year and a half," Mr. Harrison said in a statement.

Ms. Stecker will take over the role when she returns from maternity leave. She will continue to serve as assistant secretary for public affairs alongside her new deputy chief of staff responsibilities.
