Good leadership's biggest enemy? Ego

Leo Vartorella -

Leaders who allow their egos to get inflated insulate themselves from the rest of the company and risk losing touch with their colleagues, culture and clients, according to the Harvard Business Review.

Here are three tips to help leaders fight the effects of ego:

1. Consider the perks and privileges of your position. Which of them helps you do your job more effectively and which ones just promote your sense of power and ego? If certain privileges only satisfy the latter, consider letting them go.

2. Cultivate a team that doesn't feed your ego and has the confidence to speak up against you when necessary.

3. Make a habit of taking time at the end of every day to reflect on the people who helped make you successful. This daily meditation will help you develop a sense of humility.
