Dean Grant, who served as the CEO of Elk Grove Village, Ill-based Alexian Brothers Health System, died May 10 at the age of 74, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Mr. Grant, who oversaw a period of enormous growth for the hospital network, retired in 2007, capping a 36-year career with the healthcare provider. He began his career at the health system as an administrator in 1970. ABHS is now part of Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Amita Health
A former vice president of the health system, Mark Majkowski, said Mr. Grant was guided by a vision of what healthcare could be given the proper resources.
"He believed healthcare can be life-enabling and life-extending, and he wanted to provide that care and make it available for everyone," Majkowski said, according to the Tribune.
Mr. Grant died of natural causes in an assisted-living facility in McHenry, Ill.
