Former hospital CEO launches CBD company

Emily Rappleye -

Driven by the mission to reduce the number of Americans dependent on opioid prescriptions, Ty Burgess, former CEO of Carrollton, Texas-based Select Specialty Hospital, a long-term acute care hospital, launched a CBD company, One CBD, on Nov. 6.

Mr. Burgess has an autoimmune disease and chronic pain and was dependent on opioids for several years.

"As the pain got worse and my prescription count increased, I found myself in a very dark place. This is the point where curiosity led to questions, and questions led to alternative approaches. With skepticism aside, I began to research," he said in a press release. "The results unveiled the fact that prescriptions were no longer needed, and in the process, I began to develop a passion for natural healing. One so strong that it compelled me to leave my career in traditional healthcare of almost 20 years to create this company."

One CBD donates 1 percent of sales to support opioid addiction treatment, holistic wellness and ecological sustainability.
