Former AdventHealth CEO dies

Don Jernigan, former president and CEO of Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth, died on March 7, the Orlando Business Journal reported.

Mr. Jernigan retired in December 2016 and subsequently became a founding faculty member of the health system's leadership institute.

Before becoming CEO, he held other leadership roles at Adventist Health System, which has rebranded to AdventHealth. His previous roles include executive vice president and senior vice president of the health system as well as CEO of the Multi-State Hospital Division. "I will be forever grateful for the time and energy Don put into developing others," current AdventHealth President and CEO Terry Shaw said via a letter on his LinkedIn page. "His active, astute and thoughtful processing of issues helped many of us develop our leadership skills in order to assume additional roles and responsibilities."

Mr. Jernigan died from complications of a long illness, according to his obituary.

Mr. Shaw said Mr. Jernigan will be laid to rest in Texas and AdventHealth will plan a memorial for him.
