St. Augustine, Fla.-based Flagler Health+ opened the first of approximately five telehealth clinics that the hospital plans to roll out at Publix pharmacies in St. Johns County, Fla., Jacksonville Daily Record reports.

The telehealth kiosk launched Oct. 11 and is staffed remotely by Flagler Health+ physicians in the area or by American Well physicians. American Well, a telehealth provider platform, also provides the technology for the telehealth kiosks.

Each telehealth kiosk comprises teleconferencing equipment for the patient and physician to virtually communicate. Patients can also use equipment including a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter and thermometer for patients to use and record their results into the computer, which the physician can access.

During a virtual visit, which typically lasts around 10 minutes, the physician can instruct the patient to use certain medical equipment to record his or her vitals. Publix pharmacists are also available to assist patients through the appointment, which has a co-pay of $59.

Flagler Health+ and Publix partnered in March to deploy the telehealth kiosks.
