Erlanger plans 2nd meeting to discuss future of CEO

Morgan Haefner -

The board of trustees for Erlanger Health System will meet Sept. 11 to again talk about the future of its president and CEO, Kevin Spiegel, according to the Times Free Press.

The meeting comes about two weeks after the Chattanooga, Tenn.-based health system held a special meeting on the same topic. The Aug. 29 meeting discussed physician backlash against Erlanger's leadership, including Mr. Spiegel. No vote on Mr. Spiegel's future was taken at the special meeting because not all of the board members were physically present; however, many of the comments during the meeting supported Mr. Spiegel.

Erlanger Chairman Mike Griffin said the Sept. 11 meeting may also end without a vote. He told the Times Free Press the board is "still looking at what our future leadership looks like."

In May, physicians on Erlanger's 11-member Medical Executive Committee sent a letter to the chairman of the health system's board of trustees informing him they unanimously approved a no-confidence vote in several of the health system's executives.
