E.A. Conway Medical Center in Monroe, La., began sending notices to 38 employees this week, notifying them of impending layoffs, according to a News Star report.

The layoffs are part of the hospital's $8.5 million reduction in services, which were announced in August. The layoffs will affect 38 of its 794 employees, and the hospital is also eliminating 12 medical/surgical beds and six intensive care beds. The hospital's emergency department capacity has also been reduced by 25 percent.

The hospital's layoffs will be effective Nov. 30. Twenty-five of the 38 employees are nurses, according to the report.

E.A. Conway Medical Center is part of Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University Health System, which recently approved a $151.8 million budget cut plan that will reduce the workforce by 1,500 employees.
