“If we need disruption to deliver the care Americans deserve, then disruption is on the way,” Mr. Hargan said at a conference hosted by Academy Health April 26.
Mr. Hargan discussed various initiatives the department is rolling out in healthcare technology as part of the movement to value-based care. The transition to value has been deemed a top priority for the health agency.
HHS is creating a Blue Button 2.0 program under Medicare that will allow beneficiaries to connect their health data to various apps. In addition, HHS proposed that hospitals publicly list their price for various medical procedures to increase transparency and is recommending EHRs focus on interoperability.
The need for innovation in healthcare is apparent because it has become “too expensive and too inaccessible,” Mr. Hargan said, adding some of these innovations will require a federal role that may make some existing payers uncomfortable, according to The Washington Examiner.
