Congressional Democrats in both the House and Senate have raised concerns about the proposed merger between CVS and Aetna, according to The Hill.
The $69 billion deal will join thousands of CVS retail locations, including pharmacies and clinics, with Aetna's insurance business.
"I'm very concerned to see another merger in the U.S. that creates another behemoth industry and that has vertical integration," said Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., according to The Hill. "We already have had great concentration in the pharmaceutical industry, in drug stores around the country and in health insurance. And now to see those two start to join really produces a kind of concentration that cuts down on competition and in the long run tends to drive up prices for consumers."
Other lawmakers who have voiced concern about the deal include Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Democrats Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., N.J., Sen. Tim Kaine, Va., and Sen. Ron Wyden, Ore.
