4 qualities that help leaders earn respect from their employees

To direct a productive team and cultivate a positive work environment, leaders must earn the respect of those who work under them.

Below are four qualities that can help every leader earn this respect, according to Inc.

  1. Look to front-line employees for advice. These people are often some of the most involved and yet most overlooked employees, so do not underestimate the advice they can give to help make your organization more efficient and productive.
  2. Be curious and do not be afraid to ask questions. This will not make you appear unknowledgable but instead demonstrate willingness to learn about every facet of your organization and how you can improve it.
  3. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable and connect on an emotional level with your employees, who will respect your honesty and genuine nature.
  4. Have empathy for every employee, no matter his or her rank. If you demonstrate concern  for the well-being of all employees, not just higher-level managers, then people will respect your dedication.
