Consumers rank cost as top healthcare concern ahead of midterms

Kelly Gooch -

Twenty-two percent of voters said costs were the top healthcare issue they most want to hear candidates discuss during upcoming midterm campaigns, according to the latest Kaiser Health Tracking Poll.

That's more than twice the number of voters who cited Medicare/senior concerns (8 percent), repealing/opposition to the ACA (7 percent) or healthcare delivery improvement (7 percent). Costs also ranked higher than single-payer system (5 percent) and increase access/decrease number of uninsured (6 percent).

Additionally, the poll identified costs as the top healthcare issue cited by voters in battleground states with competitive House, Senate or governor races. Twenty-three percent of voters in those states said they most want to hear candidates discuss costs compared to other healthcare issues.

The poll took place Feb. 15-20 among 1,193 U.S. adults.
