Livonia, Mich.-based CHE Trinity Health is abbreviating its name to Trinity Health more than a year after Catholic Health East and Trinity Health merged to form the system.

The 86-hospital system said CHE Trinity Health was the operating name used while naming options were explored for the enterprise, formed in May 2013 by the merger of Newton Square, Pa.-based CHE and Trinity Health in Michigan.

Trinity Health also unveiled a new purple and green logo that features a cross formed by doves' wings.

"We are celebrating the new Trinity Health today with a new vision and strategy, a fresh look and many new opportunities," said Richard J. Gilfillan, MD, president and CEO. "Our name best captures our mission to be a compassionate and transforming, healing presence in our communities and our vision of becoming the national leader in improving the health of our communities and the most trusted health partner for life of each person we serve."

Trinity Health employs about 89,000 people, including 3,300 employed physicians.
