Capella Closes Hartselle Medical Center in Alabama

Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare is closing its Hartselle (Ala.) Medical Center at the end of this month, according to a Tennessean report.

The 150-bed Hartselle averages fewer than eight medical-surgical patients per day, since many seek care at other hospitals in the area, Capella explained in the report. The hospital is one of three in its county, which has been estimated to have 300 surplus hospital beds.

Capella has owned Hartselle since 2007. The closure follows Capella's recent sale of the 120-bed Parkway Medical Center in Decatur, Ala., to Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital Health System.
