Biden wants to revive individual mandate

Emily Rappleye -

Former vice president and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has a "bold" healthcare plan that would involve bringing back the individual mandate, he told CNN's Chris Cuomo on July 5 in an exclusive interview.

Mr. Biden believes the mandate would be more popular now, "compared to what's being offered." His healthcare plan would involve a public option but preserve private plans.

"If [voters] like their employer-based insurance, which a lot of unions broke their neck to get … they shouldn't have to give it up," Mr. Biden told CNN. He believes creating a single-payer health plan and eliminating private insurance would create bottlenecks in care.
