Question: What tools do hospitals and health systems need to maintain telemedicine growth post-pandemic?
Claus Jensen: Transition to an effective and integrated hybrid care model. The tooling and process needs for an integrated care model are very different from the ‘call center model’ that has historically been prevalent in the telemedicine space.
Q: What do clinicians want most from their telemedicine platforms?
CJ: Of course the ability to meaningfully interact with their patients, I believe we have together figured out how to do that. What is missing, and we are working on it, is the ability to manage “virtual clinic days” effectively across the multi-disciplinary team involved in care.
Q: Where is the biggest opportunity for telemedicine and how can hospitals and health systems best take advantage of it?
CJ: In all of its simplicity, the biggest opportunity is to make telemedicine part of the new normal. While the opportunity is simply to express, realizing it will require profound changes in how we think and operate.
Q: How can providers better navigate the digital divide to help vulnerable patient populations participate in virtual care?
CJ: We always have to be conscious of meeting our patients where they are. Understanding their unique needs and being ready to assist not just with diagnosis and treatment, but also with all logistics related to care.
