Kristin Myers serves as Senior Vice President of Information Technology for Mount Sinai Health System.

Question: What technology has taken on greater significance or value during the pandemic?

Kristin Myers: Clearly virtual care such as telehealth and home care solutions such as remote monitoring became more prevalent as it enabled clinicians to provide safe and effective patient care and communication and provided patients with a flexible way of communicating with their clinicians.

Q: How has the coronavirus pandemic forced a paradigm shift in your line of work, from your perspective?

KM: The velocity at which technology is being utilized as a part of the pandemic provides a unique opportunity to enable digital and virtual solutions to support altered patient habits and transform for resiliency. Technology can be a driver of business differentiation.

Q: What is the most underrated trait of the best leaders?

KM: Being an empathetic leader is underrated however is critical for crises such as COVID-19. Being able to practice mindfulness and being thoughtful about your actions and not just dealing with the urgent tasks in front of you. Being able to really hear and address the concerns of all team members that have very unique circumstances and tailoring your response is key.
