Question: What do innovators/entrepreneurs from outside healthcare need to better understand about hospital and health system leaders?

Janelle Ali-Dinar: There are 2 major things (1) Connect the Dots before you call - do your homework and know the marketplace. Change, Time, Strategy, Money, Physician Buy-In and Best Patient Centered are the critical daily drivers to decision makers for hospital and healthcare systems therefore we expect innovators and entrepreneurs to understand our specific individual needs and to do their respective due diligence that meet specific criteria needs for our classification, type of patients, reimbursement/payer structures, risks, care model integration and technology interfacing etc.. If innovators haven't adapted a "precision methodology" of how it is advantageous and how it creates efficiencies, better care and sustainability, it does nothing to advance care. (2). What does CMS say? CMS is our pathway to getting new innovation areas paid for in reimbursement and in developing best practices . If innovators and entrepreneurs haven't aligned with CMS and payers for coverage determination then the "good housekeeping seal of approval" is missing and the ability to utilize and demonstrate opportunities for improvement of care and margin building are missing and it creates a dead-end conversation.

Q: Tell us about the last meaningful interaction you had with a patient.

JAD: Every day our reception area is a "sanctuary of care" for women in all seasons of life. Our patients never know if they are going to be receiving the greatest news about the miracle of life or a diagnosis. So when a patient says to me that the best part of her day is coming to our sanctuary - knowing that we will take care of her tears, fears, joy, grief, laughter and smiles, from the front office to the providers, that is very humbling to hear and to strive for in servant leadership and taking care of our patients.

Q: Can you share some praise with us about people you work with? What does greatness look like to you when it comes to your team?

JAD: Greatness in our team is when (1). each team member is living and paying forward a "culture of ownership" in their respective role and in our work. (2). When we can practice our strengths via the Gallup StrengthsFinder and we can think differently about the immense value of our individual work and what we bring to an engaged team and each patient's experience. I am seeing this happening right now and each day is exciting to see this individual leadership transformation.
