Question: There is a lot to improve upon in healthcare. Of the many issues that hold your attention, what is the one you consider exceptionally imperative and urgent?

Brian Peters: Healthcare leaders today need skills and talents that span beyond those emphasized during formal training and higher education.

Q: What one specific competency do you believe up-and-coming healthcare leaders would benefit from strengthening outside the classroom?

BP: Healthcare leaders need to understand the public policy/political arena - and participate in it!

Q: What is one convention, tradition or habit that healthcare has adopted and left unquestioned that you feel either needs to stop or undergo thoughtful scrutiny? Why?

BP: Filling prescriptions. It is the single most common process that demonstrates to the public that healthcare is antiquated and hasn't responded to modern customer service expectations.

Q: We are all pressed for time and attention. Help us sift through the meaningless and the meaningful by sharing the last thing you read, heard or did that shifted your mindset and really made a difference in your personal or professional life.

BP: "No one cares what you know until they know that you care."
