Question: What are your top priorities for 2022?

Nishant Anand: Top priorities for 2022 include positioning our workforce for the future (resiliency, staffing, and training program development) and accelerating the pivot to value-based care. The health care workforce has stood strong and has helped our communities deliver both COVID and non-Covid related care. I am incredibly honored to be part of this great health care team. As leaders we need to support our teams by allowing them to recharge, by thinking differently and more innovatively about staffing and investing in educational training programs. In addition, keeping people healthy and taking a population health approach is even more important and value-based care provides a vehicle to be successful. Navigating the pace of change to value-based care is the key to success.

Q: What technologies and innovations are you most excited about in healthcare right now?

NA: I am most excited about virtual care platforms, home-based care devices, and self-care chatbots. As health care transitions with the enablement of new and emerging technologies now is the time to launch new care models that deliver on the quadruple aim. One such example is hospital at home, which allows people to receive certain types of hospital level care at home - eating their own food and recovering in the comfort of their own home. In addition, chatbot technology has the potential to allow us to scale and enhance the health of more people through automated self-care.

Q: What advice do you have for emerging healthcare leaders today?

NA: Be hungry to learn, be flexible to change, and empathetically focus on your people. Leadership is a privilege and it is a journey. One never really gets to a destination. Instead we enjoy the ride and help as many people along the way as possible. We get the privilege of leading people. It is imperative to be empathetic, to invest in people, and to cheer them on.
