Q: What are your top priorities for 2022?

Karan P. Singh: Frontline clinician engagement and leadership development. The past 2 years have been quite the adventure and we have learned a lot about ourselves and understand some of the reasons behind the “great resignation”. As we move forward, it is imperative that we engage our front line workers and equip them with the appropriate leadership and resiliency skills that will allow them to thrive and continue to find joy in their work and become leaders on the floor.

Q: How do you plan to pivot strategies this year to better serve patients?

KS: As an industry, our focus was shifted heavily towards COVID in the past 2 years and as a result several aspects of patient care suffered. COVID restrictions, workforce burnout, staffing challenges played an integral role in negatively impacting patient experience. This year, we need to reengage with our patients and learn from their feedback in an effort to develop a positive experience despite the existence of COVID around us.r.

Q: What advice do you have for emerging healthcare leaders today?

KS: Go on a scavenger hunt to find your admission application essay for your profession. Whether you are a physician, nurse, pharmacist, advanced practice provider, respiratory therapist, administrator – go back and find that essay where you wrote why you wanted to serve in healthcare. Go back and find the reason behind the calling, your calling. I have often asked my teammates to do the same. I wholeheartedly believe that all of us need that reminder to keep our fire burning. It has provided our team with solace as we continue to lead during these trying times.
