Question: What, if anything, should hospitals be doing now given economists' projections of a forthcoming economic downturn?

Bashar Naser: Pay close attention to revenue cycle and managed care payers as they constantly looking for ways to reduce hospital's and physician's payments.

Q: How can hospitals reconcile the need to maintain inpatient volumes with the mission to keep people healthier and out of the hospital?

BN: Focus on readmission reduction and free beds for new specialties that can be started and grown to admit for needed beds.

Q: Where do you go for inspiration and fresh ideas?

BN: Attend seminars and focus on new ideas, what's working well and what's not. Know what your competition is planning and be proactive and reactive.

Q: What do you see as the most exciting opportunity in healthcare right now?

BN: People will be living longer and seeking our care more frequently and focus on providing Oncology and Cardiology care as they will be in higher demand.
