President Trump’s February budget proposal included measures to lower the cost of prescription drugs, such as limiting out-of-pocket spending for enrollees in Medicare Part D. However, in a speech to the World Health Congress May 2, Mr. Azar said the administration is working on a new plan.
“Action is desperately needed: There’s little difference for a sick patient between a miracle cure that hasn’t been discovered and one that is too expensive to use,” Mr. Azar said, according to The Hill. “I believe we can help lower the cost of medicine while still promoting research that will transform the future of healthcare. Doing both is the only way forward.”
