August Ravaged With 13 Hospital Mass Layoffs

Although mass layoffs have subsided since Aug. 2010, there were still 13 hospital mass layoffs in Aug. 2011, according to an Advisory Board Company report.

Mass layoffs involve at least 50 employees from a single employer, and Bureau of Labor Statistics analysts predict hospitals will post a total of 127 mass layoffs in 2011, according to the report.

Last week, Cleveland's MetroHealth announced it expects to cut 450 jobs while the Western Connecticut Health Network said it will lay off 60 employees, which is roughly 1 percent of its workforce.
