American College of Surgeons holds emergency response class for congressional staffers

The American College of Surgeons held a class June 18 on Capitol Hill to teach congressional staffers how to respond to emergency medical situations, according to The Hill.

Seventy-seven staffers participated in the 30-minute class,  "Stop the Bleed," sponsored by Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif. The class taught how to stop bleeding and interact with victims of violence.

"This training is essential to ensure bystanders can become responders in emergency situations with traumatic injuries," Mr. Thompson told The Hill. "As Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I am doing everything I can to raise awareness on how to respond to and prevent gun violence, including ensuring people have the knowledge and skills about how to respond and potentially save a life."
